Tech Tip:Embed Facebook

  1. It's working, Heather: great! I saw the other post that was blank, but it looks like you figure this out.

Quick note about labels: if you look at your labels list, you will see that you have got some variation and strays. The idea is that you reuse exactly the same labels to put things in groups and computers (not being very smart) depend on you to make them exactly the same. So you can reorganize that to make it work more easily by using the exact same labels for the repeated assignments:

    WEEK 1: not " WEEK 1
    WEEK 2: not WEEK2
(the computer doesn't realize those are the same)

Introduction and "Tech Tip: Embedded YouTube:
this would be two separate, simple labels:
    Introduction, Tech Tip
(the label is just "Tech Tip" and you use that same "Tech Tip" label for all the different Tech Tips... and you separate them with a comma when you enter them in box there)

Tech Tip: Embed a Facebook Pic
    see previous note; just
    Tech Tip
(that way all your Tech Tip posts will go together with the same label)

    Reading Notes Part A
    Reading Notes Part B
don't use different labels for A and B; this is like a folder, so you put all your reading notes in the same folder; the label is just:
    Reading Notes

I hope that makes sense! When you see odd labels show up in your labels widget, that lets you know to go into the post and edit the label as needed ot make it all fit in with the other labels. :-)

  2. It took me several times to figure out how to get the Facebook embedded but I figured it out. I believe I have got the labels right now as well. If not let me know. Am I supposed to include what week the assignment is in within the tittle or only the label? I removed them because I felt it looked better but if I need them than I will correct it.

  3. Embedding can be weird sometimes, but once you see how it works for one service like Facebook you'll probably see all kinds of fun embedding. You can even embed NPR stories for example with the audio right there in the post. It's so cool!

And I agree about taking the Week out of the post titles too! I used to ask people to include them but then I realized that the labels are all you need. So it's totally up to you; they are not required, and I think I corrected all the assignment instructions so that the week is just a label... if you notice something I missed, let me know!

And your labels look perfect now! So as the weeks go by, you will have all those "Reading Notes" posts, and when you click on that link in your label widget, you'll be able to see all those reading notes in one big page, most recent ones at the top. It's a great way to look back on the semester and see all the things you read!
